Profile

Stephen Krupin has served as a top speechwriter to the President of the United States, Secretary of State, and Senate Majority Leader, and has written for and coached dozens of principals in politics, business, philanthropy, advocacy, and academia.

He served as a senior speechwriter to President Barack Obama in the White House and director of speechwriting on his re-election campaign, as policy advisor and chief speechwriter to Secretary of State John Kerry, as chief speechwriter and press secretary to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and in the writers’ room and media operation at three Democratic National Conventions. Stephen also launched and leads the executive communications practice at the public affairs firm SKDKnickerbocker, helping C-suite executives, elected officials and non-profit leaders achieve their strategic objectives through persuasive storytelling, speeches and media interviews.

Prior to joining the Harvard Kennedy School as an adjunct lecturer, Stephen designed and taught the graduate-level speechwriting courses at Georgetown, George Washington, and American universities.  He graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, earned a master's degree from the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University, and is a fellow at the Truman National Security Project.
